Our coffee journey begins with the freshest, in-season beans, sourced directly from the farmer. For instance, when our Colombian partner harvests and completes the drying process, we promptly import the dried green coffee beans. Upon arrival, we meticulously small-batch roast each batch to bring out the unique flavor profile of the beans.

We firmly believe that proper roasting is key to unlocking a coffee's original taste. Each bean variety has distinct flavor notes that require tailored roast temperatures and durations. By roasting in small batches, we ensure every bean reaches its full potential. In contrast, most roasters tend to over-roast, using old, out-of-season beans, resulting in a burnt flavor in the final product.

Gobena's coffee is roasted on a Joper Roaster, a renowned European brand that combines the quality of the Old World with the latest technology. Joper's commitment to performance, quality, and value gives us a competitive edge.

Importantly, 100% of Gobena's profits go towards supporting orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide. We partner with Lifesong for Orphans, an organization dedicated to empowering at-risk youth and young adults.

Our story began in 2007 in Ethiopia, when an elderly farmer named Gobena found and rescued an abandoned baby girl. After caring for her to the best of their abilities, Gobena and his wife realized she needed more support and took her to town, where she was adopted by a loving family from Illinois. This act of compassion inspired the adoptive family to start Gobena Coffee, with all net profits donated to Lifesong for Orphans.

Gobena's commitment to ethical and sustainable practices is further reflected in our Fair Trade USA certification and USDA Organic certification by Ecocert SA. Fair Trade is a global movement that puts people and the planet first, empowering farmers, workers, and fishermen while protecting the environment.
